Status: Planning discarded

The federal motorway 552 (abbreviation: BAB 552 ) - short form: Autobahn 552 (abbreviation: A 552 ) - should form a connection between the A 54 and the A 1 and cross the Cologne motorway ring at Cologne-Niehl . The planning of the motorway was rejected, but there is a four- to six-lane, motorway-like stretch called Industriestraße (not to be confused with the parallel industrial road of the same name). Colloquially, this is also known as the Ford motorway .

The route begins as an extension of Boltensternstrasse at the Boltensternstrasse intersection. - Amsterdamer Str./Niehler Damm and leads through the fake roundabout "Niehler Ei". The original plan was for the A 552 to cross the Niehler Ei with a bridge. After two exits as follows Shamrock executed connection point for A 1. After two more exits ended the route on the as half-junction built exit Chorweiler to Merianstraße. As a preliminary construction work , the bridge under Merianstrasse was unused for decades until the Fühlingen bypass was connected in 2015.

In November 2014, after several decades of planning, construction began for a continuation as a Fühlingen bypass with connection to the B 9 near Cologne-Worringen , which was opened on June 2, 2016.

A special feature is that the A 552 is often the location for the successful RTL action series Alarm für Cobra 11 - The Autobahn Police. In the series, the A 552 can be easily recognized by the street lamps in the central guardrail.
