The federal autobahn 388 (abbreviation: BAB 388 ) - short form: autobahn 388 (abbreviation: A 388 ) - was a freeway that ran from the federal autobahn 7 from the former motorway triangle Göttingen-Nord to Göttingen . It was about four kilometers long.
history
The autobahn was built in the early 1970s to relieve the Kasseler Landstrasse, which was the only connection from Göttingen and the surrounding area to the federal autobahn 7 (Kassel-Hanover) to date. The Kassel – Untereichsfeld or Kassel – Hochharz traffic no longer has to drive through the entire Göttingen urban area, which means that the new motorway has the function of a partial bypass . Therefore it was or is also called the north bypass .
In 2003, the motorway was completely downgraded to a branch of federal highway 27 . This happened with a view to the completion of the federal motorway 38 , which will replace the originally planned Göttingen – Bad Lauterberg motorway, the beginning of which was to be the A 388. Since 2019 it has been the main route of the federal road after the original route to Friedland was closed or relocated to Autobahn 7 and 38.
