The federal autobahn 18 (abbreviation: BAB 18 ) - short form: Autobahn 18 (abbreviation: A 18 ) - was a planned autobahn in the states of Brandenburg and Saxony , which was never built.
The planned A 18 should connect Cottbus with Zittau . It should lead from Cottbus via Görlitz to Zittau and on to the Czech Republic . It should intersect with the A 15 at the Cottbus triangle . A cross with the A4 was planned near Görlitz . At the planned Weißwasser junction , it should cross with the A 16 , which was also rejected . A triangle in Zittau was planned with the then planned A 17 Bautzen –Zittau (replaced by federal highway 178n ). (Note: today's federal motorway 17 was to become part of federal motorway 13 by the mid-1990s .)
The planning was discarded and instead the B 99 and B 115 were expanded at the end of the 1990s / beginning of the 21st century, over which the traffic from Cottbus to Zittau leads. Furthermore, since 2000 the new autobahn-like construction of the federal highway 178 from the A4 from Weißenberg to Zittau has been carried out.
