The federal motorway 32 (abbreviation: BAB 32 ) - short form: Autobahn 32 (abbreviation: A 32 ) - was a planned motorway that was to lead from Schwarmstedt via Celle and Wolfsburg to the former border with the GDR north of Helmstedt .

Planning history

The requirement plan passed in 1971 for the law on the expansion of federal highways from 1971 to 1985 provided for the B 214 to be built with four lanes between the Schwarmstedt junction on the A 7 , Celle and the intersection with the 188 federal highway near Uetze . The B 188 was also to be rebuilt like a motorway between this junction at Uetze, Gifhorn , Wolfsburg and the inner-German border at Seggerde . The section of the B 214 between Jeversen and Hambühren and a short stretch of the B 188 south and east of Wolfsburg- Alt-Wolfsburg were already listed as single-lane traffic . The sections Schwarmstedt – Celle – Gifhorn and Wolfsburg – Velpke ( B 244 ) were classified in urgency level II, the section Gifhorn – Wolfsburg in urgency level I and the connection Velpke – inner-German border in urgency level III.

With the restructuring of the network of federal motorways, which was introduced with effect from January 1, 1975, the Schwarmstedt – Celle – Gifhorn – Wolfsburg – inner-German border was given the uniform designation Bundesautobahn 32 . However, the route was changed: the motorway should no longer run north, but south around Celle and then run along the Aller directly to Gifhorn.

In 1976, the network plan included the Celle bypass on a joint route with the A 37 north and east of the city. The law amending the law on the expansion of federal highways in the years 1971 to 1985 from August 5, 1976, however, led to the downgrading of the urgency of almost the entire route to further requirements. Only the bypass of Celle was assigned to one lane of urgency level Ia.

With the 2nd law amending the law on the expansion of federal highways from 1971 to 1985 from August 25, 1980, the motorway project came to an end. Only the Celle bypass and the Wolfsburg- Warmenau and Kästorf route remained from the planning. This was the case even after the 3rd law amending the law on the expansion of the trunk road of April 21, 1986. After German reunification, the importance of east-west connections increased considerably. However, the A 32 was not re-included in the requirements plan of the Fourth Act to Change the Highway Extension Act of November 15, 1993. On the one hand the six-lane expansion of the A 2 was undertaken, on the other hand, the legislature considered the creation of bypasses (OU) on the B 214 and B 188 to be sufficient. In addition, only the OU Vorsfelde and the new Danndorf - Oebisfelde line were included.

The A 32 is also not included in the 2003 Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan.
