The federal motorway 623 (abbreviation: BAB 623 ) - short form: Autobahn 623 (abbreviation: A 623 ) - runs from the Friedrichsthal motorway triangle (connection with the A 8 ) past Sulzbach / Saar to the junction (the bogus and therefore not officially designated as such Triangle) Saarbrücken- Ludwigsberg. The section originally planned as far as the city center of Saarbrücken was built as Bundesstraße 41 . The entire course of the A 623 was part of the B 41, which was incorporated into it, until it was rededicated as a federal motorway.
At the end of the autobahn, the right lane leads west past the Rodenhof district and the Ludwigsparkstadion to the Ludwigskreisel (L 127 and B 268 ) and then over the Saar (Westspange) to the Saarbrücken-Westspangenbrücke AS Saarbrücken-Westspangenbrücke A 620 .
The left lane goes at the AS Saarbrücken-Rodenhof east of the Rodenhof district down the mountain directly into the city center ( B 41 ), also crosses the Saar and the A 620 (AS Saarbrücken-Wilhelm-Heinrich-Brücke) and continues in the direction of Goldene Bremm . Here the B 41 becomes the national road 3 ( France towards Forbach / Metz ).
This highway is completely within the Regional Saarbrücken and is an important regional transport connections. In addition, the A 623 for coming from the north traffic, especially from the A1 signposted as Route to Saarbruecken. The A 1 also leads into the city center to the Ludwigskreisel, but the last 20 km (from AK Saarbrücken ) drivers are directed to the A 8 and then after about 6 km to the A 623, because the A 1 and in the Malstatt district, too high traffic volumes should be prevented.
The signs on the autobahn until 2011 showed a curiosity: Since the A 623 is a replacement for the B 41 , some signs referring to the A 623 were still marked with the federal road number 41. This also applied to all distance signs along the A 623. The last stretch between Saarbrücken-Rodenhof and Saarbrücken-Güterbahnhof is no longer signposted as a motorway (but as a motor vehicle ), but it has four lanes and has blue signs. In 2011 almost all of these signs were replaced and no longer have any signage other than B 41 . The blue signs that signify the two exits Rodenhof and Ludwigsberg have also been replaced by yellow signs.
