The Südwesttangente is a four-lane expressway between the Nürnberg-Hafen and Fürth motorway junction .

Location of the southwest bypass (red)

It officially begins at the Nuremberg city ​​limits at the Nürnberg-Zollhaus junction and ends at the western Fürth city limits at Fürth-Burgfarrnbach. It owes its name to its geographical location in the greater Nuremberg area, which it runs through from south to west. It runs parallel to the Main-Danube Canal between the Nürnberg-Hafen Ost and Fürth West exits .

In the unofficial language of the population, however, the south-west bypass goes even further, from the Nuremberg / Feucht motorway triangle ( A 9 ) to the roundabout in Neustadt an der Aisch and would have become part of a never realized A 752 between the Nuremberg / Feucht and Diespeck motorway triangle .

Between the Nuremberg / Feucht triangle and the Nürnberg Hafen junction, the south-west bypass is designated as the A 73 , and from the Fürth West exit as the B 8 . Since July 2015, the 13.5-kilometer section between Fürth-Burgfarrnbach and Langenzenn-Nord has been subject to tolls for trucks over 12 t total weight.

Between the junctions Nürnberg / Feucht and Langenzenn-West / Wilhermsdorf, the road has four lanes throughout. With the crossing of the Zenn valley, the south-west bypass is only a two-lane main road with crossings, but there are also three lanes in sections. The roundabout ends shortly before Neustadt an der Aisch.
