The Zenn is a 49 km long, left and western tributary of the Regnitz in Middle Franconia .

Surname

The name " Zenn " comes from the Anglo-Saxon word dānian , which means moist . The river gave their names to the Obernzenn market , the Unterzenn district and the town of Langenzenn .

geography

course

The Zenn rises in the extreme north of the Frankenhöhe , flows east to east-northeast through Obernzenn , Trautskirchen , Neuhof an der Zenn , Wilhermsdorf , Langenzenn , Veitsbronn , Rothenberg and Ritzmannshof (Fürth) and flows into the Regnitz at Fürth - Vach from the left and south-west .

Like most of the western tributaries of the Regnitz, the Zenn has a low gradient and a low discharge as well as sand structures in the bank area and in the river bed .

Catchment area

The 257.5 km² catchment area stretches in a slim spindle contour of around 43 km in length and a maximum of around 10 km in width from the Hohe Steig forest plateau between Marktbergel and Obernzenn in the west, a little above the source to the mouth at Fürth-Vach in the east. The northern watershed borders in the far west on the drainage area of the Aisch , on the larger part then on that of the Middle Aurach . Beyond the southern one, the Farrnbach , the Bibert and finally the Franconian Rezat compete from east back to west , whose headwaters at Oberdachstetten are close to that of the Zenn. Here, near the western tip of the Zenn catchment area, this watershed also runs over the 506  m above sea level. NN highest point in the entire catchment area, which is on the Illesheimer Kopf between Urphertshofen on this side and Oberdachstetten on the other. Aisch, Aurach and Farrnbach run like the Zenn further below from the left into the Regnitz, Bibert and Fränkische Rezat also drain into the Regnitz via the main upper reaches of the Rednitz .
