  • Bundesautobahn 687 (abbreviation: BAB 687 ) - short form: Autobahn 687 (abbreviation: A 687 ) - was the project name of a planned freeway from Stockstadt am Main to Obernburg am Main . The autobahn should begin at the Mainhausen junction of the A 45 , then run around Aschaffenburg in a large curve to the west and then run left-hand Main to Obernburg am Main. Instead, the four-lane expansion of federal highway 469 was implemented , whichbeginsshortly before the Stockstadt junction of the A 3 and now extends to beyond Trennfurt . From there on, federal highway 469 continues for the most part in two lanes to Amorbach .

The responsible road construction authority in Aschaffenburg could no longer determine why the route was never signposted as a motorway. One possibility would be that the section of the B 469, which has been expanded to four lanes, does not meet the minimum standards of a motorway , but only the minimum standards of a motorized road . The two lanes are only 7.5 meters wide in each direction, and 11.5 meters are required on motorways. Side stripes are also missing. The median is so narrow that drainage is difficult. In addition, short acceleration strips at the junctions prevent easy threading.

The straight nine-kilometer section between Großostheim- Mitte and Obernburg -Nord is popularly known as the Long Towel .

A motorway junction was also planned in the area of the Großostheim-Nord junction. The extension of the A 680 from Darmstadt , which was not implemented, would have crossed here.
