Bundesautobahn 22 (abbreviation: BAB 22 ) - short form: Autobahn 22 (abbreviation: A 22 ) - was the name for a planned motorway in northern Lower Saxony until June 25, 2010. According to more recent plans, the route is tobe implementedas part of the Federal Motorway 20 . In the regional press, the A 22 was also often called thecoastal motorway and, with its coastal route, was intended to improve the hinterland connections to the northern German ports.

Originally as A 22 planned motorway was from the A 28 between junctions Bad Zwischenahn-West and Zwischenahn on the A 29 at Jäderberg , through the existing Wesertunnel on the A 27 at Bremerhaven to the planned motorway junction Drochtersen with the A 26 lead . There, the motorway was to merge into the extension of the A 20, originally only planned to this motorway triangle, which was to be led from there through a planned Elbe tunnel through Schleswig-Holstein to the existing route.

history

The former A 22 was listed in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2003 as “Additional requirements with planning rights and nature conservation planning mandate for WB *” and was therefore considered to be of secondary importance at the federal level. The state of Lower Saxony sought to be upgraded to "Urgent Need" when this planning work was next revised. In this case, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Transport announced the start of construction in 2014 and completion from 2018 to 2020 if the planning approval process went smoothly, and 2020 was named as the earliest possible completion date at the discussion on the regional planning procedure. The state of Lower Saxony had the regional planning procedure opened on October 10, 2007 by the government agency in Lüneburg (former district government).

On May 29, 2007, the then Lower Saxony Minister of Transport, Walter Hirche, announced that a route between the Elbe and the Weser would be primarily planned via Bremervörde and Loxstedt . A north variant, which would lead via Lamstedt and Bad Bederkesa to the A 27 north of Bremerhaven , was not finally ruled out, the final clarification took place in the regional planning procedure.

On June 30th, 2009 the “Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport” presented a “state planning established route” to the public.

On June 25, 2010, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Enak Ferlemann, handed over the route determination to the Lower Saxony Minister of Economics, Jörg Bode . The state authorities could then initiate the plan approval procedure. At the same time, the previously called A 22 motorway was renamed by Ferlemann to A 20 .
