The federal motorway 671 (abbreviation: BAB 671 ) - short form: Autobahn 671 (abbreviation: A 671 ) - is an approx. 12 km long motorway in the German state of Hesse and, as the eastern part of the Mainz motorway ring , leads from Wiesbaden to the Mainspitz triangle near Ginsheim- Gustavsburg .

course

The A 671 forms the eastern part of the Mainz motorway ring

The motorway begins as a continuation of the B 263 coming from Wiesbaden city center shortly after the Wiesbaden-Mainzer Straße junction of the A 66 . The connection between the two autobahns is not completely height-free - if you want to change from the A 66 to the B 263, you will come to a traffic light crossing in both directions, but not in the opposite direction. From the Wiesbaden / Mainz-Amöneburg junction (2), which is still in the Biebrich area, the road is signposted as a motorway. Immediately to the east of the carriageway is the former Wuth'sche brewery with its distinctive main building.

The A 671 continues past the tracks of the Wiesbaden Ost train station and makes a curve in a south-easterly direction so that the Mainz bypass line is not crossed. The Mainz-Kastel junction (3) connects with Mainz-Kastel and is designed as a clover leaf . The B 455 connected here also offers a connection to the A 66 in the direction of Frankfurt in the north . From the following junction at Hochheim -Nord (4), at which federal highway 40 branches off to the east, the route swings to the south. The core city of Hochheim is connected via the Hochheim-Süd junction (5) . In addition, the western branch of Bundesstraße 40 branches off here in the direction of Mainz-Kostheim and Mainz . Between the junctions Hochheim-Süd (5) and Gustavsburg (6) the Main is crossed on the Mainbrücke Hochheim , parallel to the Kostheimer Bridge for rail traffic. After the Gustavsburg junction (6) , the motorway joins the A 60 in the Mainspitz triangle .

Resting places

Between the junction of Hochheim-Nord (4) and Mainz-Kastel (3), in the direction of Wiesbaden, there is a small rest area called Zur alten Römerstraße . There was also a small parking lot at the same height in the opposite direction, which was vacated at the end of the 1980s, but the shape of which can still be seen today on the managed property boundaries from the nearby bridge over the motorway.

history

The motorway was built in the 1960s, so the section between Gustavsburg and the Mainspitz triangle was opened in 1969. Originally the autobahn was also known as the "Süd-Main-Schnellweg" (in contrast to the name "Rhein-Main-Schnellweg" for the A 66 ). Before the reorganization of the Baundesautobahn network in 1975, the entire motorway section was designated as A 92 and led over the Mainspitz triangle to the Rüsselsheim triangle . The latter section is now part of the A 60 . In the 1970s, a parallel 110 kV line from the Mainz-Wiesbaden power plant was built along almost the entire length of the motorway .

At the end of 2015, numerous signposts along the route were renewed. The bridge over the Amöneburg roundabout (AS 2 Wiesbaden / MZ-Amöneburg ) was extensively renovated and partially rebuilt from February 2013 to January 2016.
