  • The federal autobahn 252 (abbreviation: BAB 252 ) - short form: autobahn 252 (abbreviation: A 252 ) - was a short stretch of autobahn in Hamburg . With a length of 1.5 km it was the shortest motorway in Germany. With the opening of the new Wilhelmsburger Reichsstraße east of the old route on October 6, 2019, the motorway was downgraded to the B 75.

    course

The A 252 branched off from the A 255 in a westward direction. From there it went directly over to Wilhelmsburger Reichsstrasse ( B 4 , B 75 ), which was also four-lane, but not built to the usual motorway standard.

    particularities

The signs on the autobahn were as usual on federal autobahns, but the A 252 was never mentioned; to the south it was signposted as the B 75, to the north as the B 4 and B 75.

    Expansion planning

Plans to expand the harbor crossbar (until 2008)

Until the Senate of the CDU and GAL was formed after the Hamburg state elections in 2008, it was planned to extend the A 252 as a so-called Hafenquerspange through the Elbe island Wilhelmsburg / Kleiner Grasbrook and the port area and to connect it to the A 7 in the west . On behalf of the Hamburg Senate, the city's own realization company (ReGe) developed plans along the lines specified by the federal government. Tunneling under the Köhlbrand and tunneling under the Spreehafen should also be examined.

There was considerable criticism of the planning of an urban motorway through the port and across the Elbe island because it endangered the development of the Elbe island, which the city wanted to upgrade (International Building Exhibition 2013, "Leap across the Elbe"). In addition, their necessity was doubted because the bottlenecks in the connections were mainly caused by the free port customs posts and not by missing lanes.

The construction costs for this approx. 8 km long gap closure should amount to around 500 million euros according to the planning. At the beginning of 2008, the responsible authority for urban development and the environment estimated the costs at around 1 billion euros. According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, a feasibility study on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport was in the final editing stage at the beginning of 2009 . In it u. a. It is to be examined whether co-financing by a private operator under the Highway Construction Private Financing Act would be possible. Then not only on the Hafenquerspange, but also on the parallel Köhlbrand Bridge and possibly considerably more roads that lead through the Elbe island, a toll not only for trucks, but also for cars. The then State Council of the Authority for Urban Development and the Environment declared in agreement with the then head of the ReGe on January 17, 2008 that it was not to be expected that the study would determine a feasibility according to the toll model.

Abandonment of the plans in favor of the A 26

On February 23, 2010, the Hamburg Senate announced in a Senate printed matter that it had applied for a new line definition by the responsible federal government. On March 5, 2009, the responsible Senator Anja Hajduk (GAL) presented the results of an expert report by the Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs- und Baugesellschaft mbH (DEGES) and declared them to be the basis of the position of her authority. Then the A 26 is to be extended as a so-called port passage via a motorway junction Moorburg (A 7 / A 26), a high bridge over the Süderelbe to the island of Kattwyk and further through Wilhelmsburg to the A 1 in Hamburg-Kirchdorf. It is supposed to cross the Wilhelmsburger Reichsstraße, but without a possibility to exit from the Hafenquerspange on the Wilhelmsburger Reichsstraße to the north. For reasons of urban development policy, there are considerable protests among the population against the project.

On February 23, 2010, the Hamburg Senate decided to apply to the federal government for the new line determination.
