Pulp was a British rock band that was founded in 1978 by teenagers Jarvis Cocker and Peter Dalton in Sheffield under the name "Arabicus Pulp". She was one of the most important exponents of Britpops in the 1990s; it has not been active since 2013.
history
In the beginning, Jarvis Cocker and Peter Dalton appeared with changing players. They used the names Arabicus (after the coffee type Arabica ) or Arabicus Pulp (after the feature film Pulp ) for a short time , before they decided on pulp in November 1978 .
After the release of freaks and internal turmoil, the band had a stable line up around 1987. Jarvis Cocker moved to London in 1988 and began studying film at St. Martin's College. With separation arose in this time, another drive, it was not published until 1,992th
Only after the success of My Legendary Girlfriend did a few more singles appear on Steve Beckett's gift label, including Babies , which brought the band a major deal on Island Records . His 'N' Hers , the major debut, made it into the UK Top Ten and received excellent reviews.
In 1995 the single Common People climbed to number two in the UK singles charts. The song is about a rich Greek student who wants to get to know the life of ordinary people in London. There has been much speculation about the identity of the woman, according to media reports it could be the artist Danae Stratou, wife of Yanis Varoufakis .
The album Different Class rose from 0 to 1 in the album charts and reached platinum status in its second week. The band also became known through Disco 2000 , which can be found on the same album. This was their most commercially successful song.
In 1998, the dark album This Is Hardcore and the pre-single Help The Aged sold below expectations, despite positive reviews. After the long player We Love Life (2001) produced by Scott Walker and a best-of album (2002), the band found itself in a creative break of several years.
In 2011/12 Pulp returned to the stage with a reunion tour. Cocker and band have performed at the Primavera Festival in Barcelona , the Melt ( Ferropolis ), the Wireless Festival in London and the Reading and Leeds Festivals , among others . The tour ended on December 8, 2012 with a performance in Sheffield, the town where it was founded. The last concert is the theme of the documentary Pulp: A Film About Life, Death and Supermarkets from 2014. Since the band's last appearance on February 2, 2013 on the Jonathan Ross Show , Pulp has been inactive again.
