Different Class is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Pulp . It was released on October 30, 1995 by PolyGram and Island Records .

Creation and publication

Different Class was produced by Chris Thomas. It contained the band's two most successful singles, both of which reached number two on the UK charts: Common People and Sorted for E's & Wizz / Mis-Shapes (the latter with two A-sides). The album itself climbed to # 1 on the UK charts and went four times platinum in the UK.

Leitmotif

The central motif of the album is the British class system . This is reflected in the title Different Class (Ger. Other class ) and includes a thematic framework for the pieces of the album. On the back of the cover are the words:

" Please understand. We don't want no trouble. We just want the right to be different. That's all. "

Track list

With the exception of the marked exceptions, all songs are written by Jarvis Cocker , Nick Banks, Steve Mackey, Russell Senior, Candida Doyle and Mark Webber.

“Sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes funny, sometimes both at the same time. Cocker's songs identify him as a master of pop. The central track, "Common People", is one of the great singles of the 90s. The rest of the album is full of wonderful borrowings from David Bowie and kitsch diva Laura Branigan from the 80s. "

- Julie Taraska

The album is one of the 1001 albums You Must Hear Before You Die .
