Jonathan Ross (born November 17, 1960 in London ) is a British presenter and film critic. His nickname, Wossy, is based on his last name and speech impediment .

Career

Ross, who grew up in the London borough of Leytonstone , was a child in commercials a. a. see for Persil and Kellogg's . After graduating from high school, he studied history at the University of London . From 1981 Ross worked on the extended staff of television shows on Channel 4 . From 1987 he was presenter of the late night show The Last Resort with Jonathan Ross , which was a success with more than four million viewers. In the following years he took part in numerous programs, including several times since 1988 he was the presenter of the Red Nose Days of the organization Comic Relief , for which he is committed; from 1991 he also hosted the British Comedy Awards .

In 1999 he took on a film review show on the BBC television program . He also got a broadcast on BBC Radio 2 . Since 2001 he has hosted the talk show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on BBC One , for which he has received several BAFTA awards . In 2005, based on the results of an expert survey by Radio Times magazine, he was named the most powerful person in radio (Eng. "Most powerful radio personality"). In the same year he received the rank of OBE .

Every February since 2007, Ross has hosted the British Academy Film Awards , Great Britain's most prestigious film award.

In October 2008, Ross, known for his lewd humor and sometimes vulgar language, aroused public outrage after he crudely told actor Andrew Sachs, among other things, that Brand had sex with him during pranks on the phone with Russell Brand for a radio show Had granddaughter. On October 20, 2014, ITV announced that Ross had signed a new contract with the broadcaster that would allow Ross to present two more seasons of its talk show and a Christmas special in 2015. In addition, Ross has been a juror on the ITV program The Masked Singer since 2020 .

Ross has been married to Jane Goldman since 1988 , who worked alongside Matthew Vaughn on the script for the film Der Sternwanderer and hosted a mystery show for the British broadcaster Living . The couple has three children.
