introduction
BAFTA is made up of members of the British Film Academy and the Guild of Television Producers and Directors .
The British Film Academy was founded by filmmakers on April 16, 1947 in a London hotel. Michael Balcon , Sir Alexander Korda , David Lean and Carol Reed were among the founders .
A member of the academy with voting rights can become a member who has at least four years of professional experience in the film, television and interactive media industries and has been proposed for membership by an existing member. In 2010 the academy had around 6,500 members.
BAFTA's head office is in Piccadilly Circus . The current chair is Pippa Harris .

The British Academy Television Awards have been presented since 1954 in the same way as the American Emmy television award. With the exception of the International Award and an audience award, most of the more than 20 categories are reserved for British television productions (including films, series, documentaries). They are usually awarded every year in May / June. The sponsor is the electronics company Philips , which is why the television award is officially known as the Philips British Academy Television Awards .

The last award ceremony took place in London at the end of April.
