The 44th British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place in 1991. The film prizes of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) were awarded in 19 categories, plus three special or honorary award categories. Films from 1990 were honored.

With eleven nominations, Giuseppe Tornatores Cinema Paradiso was considered the favorite in advance and finally received five awards. Martin Scorsese's Good Fellas - Three Decades in the Mafia , who had received seven nominations in advance , won just as many prizes . The losers of the evening were Woody Allen's crimes and other trifles, as well as the comedy film Pretty Woman , which received six and four nominations respectively.
