George Fenton

George Fenton (* 19th October 1950 as George Howe in London ) is a British composer , mainly for film and TV productions, but also for the theater.

Life

As a teenager, Fenton attended the prestigious St Edward's School in Oxford. At the beginning of his career he worked as an actor for a short time, in 1971 he wrote his first film music for Private Road and played a supporting role in this film. From 1974 he was engaged for the incidental music of the Royal Shakespeare Company , the Royal National Theater and the Riverside Studios . In 1982 he achieved his commercial and professional breakthrough in the film business with the score for Gandhi . His work includes more than 150 productions. Since the mid-1990s he has been regularly involved in films by director Ken Loach .

Fenton has received several awards over the course of his career and has been nominated for various prizes. He won the BAFTA TV Award three times and the Emmy just as often . He has been nominated for an Oscar five times so far .

In Germany, Fenton is mainly known as the composer of the Spiegel TV theme music.
