British Academy Film Awards 2010

The 63rd British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place on February 21, 2010 at the Royal Opera House , London . The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) film awards were presented in 23 categories. The event was hosted for the fourth time by the British presenter and film critic Jonathan Ross .

The nominations were announced on January 21, 2010. The nominees for the Orange Rising Star Award and the nominations for the best non-English language film were published in advance .

The winner of the evening was the film Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker by Kathryn Bigelow , which received a total of six BAFTA awards, including best original screenplay, best director and best film. Actress Vanessa Redgrave was awarded the BAFTA Academy Fellowship .

Favorite films

All feature films released in the UK between January 1 and December 31, 2009 , or those with a planned release by February 19, 2010 by the distributor in advance of the Academy, were considered for nominations for the 63rd BAFTA Film Awards were presented. Special rules applied to short films and animated short films , so only British productions were allowed in these categories. A total of 220 films met these conditions.

After the first round of voting, BAFTA published a long list with 15 candidates per category. With 17 mentions, Lone Scherfig's An Education was one of the favorites for the BAFTA Film Awards.

In fact, An Education became the most nominated British film with a total of eight nominations. James Cameron's science fiction film Avatar and Kathryn Bigelow's war drama Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker also received eight nominations . All three films competed in the “Best Film” category, and Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire and Up in the Air were also nominated. The award for the best film went to Tödliches Kommando - The Hurt Locker , which became the most successful film of the awards with victories in five other categories, followed by Avatar , the animated film Oben and the British historical drama Young Victoria with two wins each.

In addition to James Cameron, Kathryn Bigelow and Lone Scherfig, Quentin Tarantino and the South African Neill Blomkamp were nominated for best directors. Blomkamp's science fiction drama District 9 surprisingly received seven nominations, Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds was nominated six times, including Christoph Waltz for Best Supporting Actor.
