Mother of Many is a 2009 British animated short film directed by Emma Lazenby .
action
A woman wakes up at night after the alarm goes off. It is a midwife who is now driving to the hospital. During her shift, she looks after numerous heavily pregnant women, helps with baths, provides information, tracks the heartbeat of the unborn child and finally initiates a birth when one of the unborn babies shows irregularities. In the end, the child is born healthy and the parents are happy. The midwife ends her shift in the evening. She takes a deep breath as she sits in the car, buckles up and drives home while new heavily pregnant women arrive at the clinic.
production
Lazenby's inspiration for the film was her own mother, Pam Lazenby, who worked as a midwife from 1980 to 2008. After her mother retired in 2008, Emma Lazenby began developing ideas for the film. The actual implementation took place in 2009; The film was finished at the end of September 2009.
For Mother of Many, Lazenby used authentic voices from expectant mothers and the heartbeat of unborn babies, including those of David Schweitzer's son, who contributed the film music. The film was implemented in color on glass, hand drawings as well as with Flash and After Effects .
Awards
Mother of Many won in 2010 the British Academy Film Awards in the category Best Animated Short Film .
