British Academy Film Awards 1996
The 49th British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place on April 23, 1996. The film prizes of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) were awarded in 20 categories, plus four special or honorary award categories. The venue was the Theater Royal Drury Lane , the evening was hosted by British actor and comedian Angus Deayton , with Peter Ustinov assisting him for parts of the evening .

While there were two big favorites in the run-up with King George - A Kingdom for More Mind (14 nominations) and Sense and Sensuality (12 nominations), in the end both films as well as Braveheart and The Postman were among the winners of the In the evening. Losers were A Piggy by the Name of Babe and Leaving Las Vegas who received four and three nominations respectively.
