Jan Archibald

Jan Archibald (born October 1949 in London ) is a British make-up artist, make-up artist and expert in make-up design. In 2008 she won an Oscar in the categories “Best Make-up” and “Best Hairstyles” for her work in the film drama La vie en rose . The film depicts the life of Édith Piafs . She was also awarded the BAFTA Film Award and the OFTA Award for this work .

Life

Jan Archibald started her film career in 1984 as a hairstylist in the British black comedy Skinny Times - The Movie With the Pig . In the 1987 biopic Poor Rich Girl - The Story of Barbara Hutton , Archibald was mainly responsible for the hairstyle of the female lead actress Farrah Fawcett . She was awarded a Primetime Emmy for her work in this film . In the television miniseries Firestorm and Ashes (1988) she was responsible for the actors' hairstyles. Together with three colleagues, she was again nominated for an Emmy.

In the horror drama Interview with a Vampire (1994) about the undead Louis, played by Brad Pitt , Archibald was the head hairstylist on the set. A nomination for the BAFTA Award was the reward for their creative work. In the multi-award-winning Jane Austen film Sense and Sensibility (1995) by Ang Lee , Archibald was again appointed head hairstylist. Again she was nominated for a BAFTA Award. For the British drama Wings of the Dove from 1997, she was then rewarded with the BAFTA Award. In 1999 Archibald was nominated for an Emmy for her work on the television mini-series Jeanne d'Arc - The Woman of the Millennium .

She received the Ofta Award in 2000 for her work in the science fiction film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace , in which she was, among other things, the hairstylist for Liam Neeson . Archibald was again nominated for a BAFTA Award for the classically staged Whodunit film by Robert Altman Gosford Park . She worked as chief hair designer in the monumental film Alexander (2004) by Oliver Stone with Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie . In the fantasy film The Illusionist (2006) she worked with Edward Norton and Jessica Biel .

Archibald was again on the nomination list for the BAFTA Award for the British drama The Duchess (2008) with Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes , as was for the 3D film Hugo Cabret (2011) by Martin Scorsese . Archibald was nominated for an OFTA Award for the period drama in the format of a miniseries Parade's End - The Last Gentleman (2013), in which she worked as a make-up specialist and hair designer.
