Jeeves and Wooster is a British comedy series based on short stories and novels by PG Wodehouse published from 1916 onwards . The main characters are Hugh Laurie as Bertie Wooster and Stephen Fry as Reginald Jeeves .

The series is about the friendship of the dandy Bertie Wooster and his valet Reginald Jeeves . Jeeves is mostly occupied with freeing Wooster from awkward situations and the clutches of married women.

The series ran in the United Kingdom from April 22, 1990 to June 20, 1993 on the British broadcaster ITV . In Germany, the series ran first on Mondays in the night program, then on weekdays in the morning program on VOX .

Several of the supporting roles, including as essential as Aunt Agatha , Madeline Bassett and Augustus Fink-Nottle , were played by more than one actor in the series. Aunt Dahlia , one of the main characters in the Bertie Wooster stories, was even portrayed by a different actress in each of the four seasons. Conversely, actress Francesca Folan played Madeline Bassett in the first season and Lady Florence Craye in the fourth season .

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie had previously worked together on the comedy show A Bit of Fry & Laurie .
