Michael Ripper

Michael George Ripper (born January 27, 1913 in Portsmouth , † June 28, 2000 in London ) was a British actor .

Life

Ripper began his film career in 1936, initially as an extra or in the smallest supporting roles. By 1940 he was named in only four of a total of 29 films in the credits. Until the mid-1950s he starred in numerous British films, including Oliver Twist , Richard III. and nineteen eighty-four , but there were still only minor supporting roles left for him. He had already worked in his first Hammer production in 1935; between 1948 and 1973 he played in over 30 Hammer films, making him the most booked actor in the studio, well ahead of the better-known representatives Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. However, even with Hammer, he mostly only had supporting roles, and he often worked under strong masking. He is known to British television audiences not only through numerous guest appearances in well-known television series such as Secret Order for John Drake , Simon Templar , Die Füchse and Der Aufpasser . He played in the children's series Freewheelers and The Scarecrow and had recurring guest roles in the sitcom Butterflies and in Jeeves and Wooster - Herr und Meister .

Ripper was married three times, with one child each from the first two marriages. His second marriage was between 1972 and 1978 with the actress Catherine Finn , the last marriage with the costume designer Cecelia Doidge lasted until his death.
