action
The children John and Sue move to the country with their father somewhere in England. They soon meet a strange scarecrow that can move and speak. It was created by the creepy-looking crow man who gave life to many such bizarre beings. He named the scarecrow root.
That root developed into a joker and quick-change artist of the highest order. He spends most of his time doing some nonsense, annoying people, or creating as much chaos as possible. He is reluctant to pursue his actual job, scare away birds, which causes the crow man's annoyance. He often gets himself into such trouble that he literally has to worry about his head, which he can take off at will and replace with another at any time. Fortunately for him, his new friends John and Sue regularly bail him out. Wurzel also shows human traits when he falls madly in love with the wooden doll “Aunt Sally” at a fair. Now he is doing everything in his power to win her heart. But this path proves to be more than rocky for the scarecrow root.
