occupation

The Foxes (original title: The Sweeney ) was a British crime series from 1975-1978. The main characters were officers from an elite Scotland Yard unit known as the Flying Squad , whose mission was to combat violent crime. The series consists of 54 episodes in 4 seasons. In Germany, 26 parts of the series were broadcast on ZDF from August 1980. In 1993, two television films were put together from the series, which were broadcast on RTL 2 under the umbrella name Sweeny .

action

The main characters are Detective Inspector Jack Regan and Detective Sergeant George Carter, who serve at the raid in London. The police officers are not portrayed as infallible, always correct officers, but as people with rough edges, who also make mistakes and occasionally do not shy away from outbreaks of violence or unorthodox methods to arrest brutal criminals.

background

The series originally ran on British television network ITV between 1975 and 1978 . From a technical point of view, the series excelled in that everything was completely recorded on film (it was often common at the time to use the technically poorer video cameras, at least for indoor shots). In addition, the series dared to jump out of the television studio as one of the first of its kind: As a result, a large number of exterior shots were shown in a series that were actually shot live in London traffic, mostly without barriers.

Since the 1990s, the series has hardly been repeated in the United Kingdom, but from 2010 it was increasingly broadcast on ITV3 and ITV4. In 2012 there was a remake in theaters under the title The Crime with Ray Winstone as Jack Regan and Plan B as George Carter.

For the German broadcast, ZDF did not proceed in stages, but skipped episodes at random. The broadcast slot was every 14 days on Wednesdays at 9:20 p.m. After the series, two television films were made, which ran on RTL 2 in 1993 under the umbrella name Sweeny.
