Dennis Waterman (born February 24, 1948 in Clapham , London ) is a British actor and pop singer, who was mainly known for his portrayal of "tough guys" in British crime series, in particular The Foxes and The Watcher .

Life

Waterman always portrayed “ Cockneys ” in his well-known television roles , always with the appropriate dialect and attitude. Since 2003 Waterman can be seen as ex-detective sergeant Gerry Standing in the series New Tricks - Die Krimispezialisten .

Waterman is parodied in the television series Little Britain . Played by David Walliams , he regularly visits his agent who offers him a role. The offer fails every time because Waterman also wants to write and sing the title song. This is an allusion to the fact that Waterman also sang the theme tune for three series in which he played (namely Der Aufpasser ( Minder ), On the Up and New Tricks - Die Krimispezialisten ). Furthermore, the use of everyday objects that are oversized for him (which are normal for his agent) alludes to his height (about 1.75 meters or 5 feet, 9 inches).

In March 2012, he hit the headlines saying it wouldn't be difficult for a wife to get her husband to hit her, sparking outrage and discussion about domestic violence.

As a singer, Waterman became internationally known as he released several pop albums from 1976 to 1981.
