One came through is a feature film about the story of the German pilot officer Franz von Werra . He was the only German soldier who was able to flee from British captivity and return home. The script is based on the nonfiction book The One That Got Away by Kendal Burt and James Leasor from 1956.
action
The film is based on a true story: The Battle of Britain is 1,940 at its peak. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 from Franz von Werra was shot down, he is captured and English POW camp Grizedale Hall interned. The interrogation that follows can intimidate him, but it does not prevent him from achieving his only goal: to escape. He escapes twice, but is captured again and again. Then he is to be transferred to a prison camp in Canada. On the way there he manages to escape from the prisoner transport train. He made his way into the then still neutral USA.
In the end credits on the English-language text panels you can read that from there he came back to the German Reich via Central and South America, where he was again deployed as a fighter pilot. During a routine flight over the North Sea, he crashed due to engine failure. The plane and the remains of Werras were never found.
In the German off-commentary of the end credits, the panels are only partially translated. The tragic fate of the pilot is completely suppressed.
Reviews
"Excitingly staged war film, which in its quasi-documentary description of authenticated events remains relatively free of speculation and pathos."
