Terence Alexander

Terence Joseph Alexander (born March 11, 1923 in London-Islington ; † May 28, 2009 ibid) was a British actor who was best known for his portrayal of Charlie Hungerford in the English crime series Jim Bergerac .

Life

Alexander grew up the son of a doctor in Yorkshire . He was trained at Ratcliffe College ( Leicestershire ) and Norwood College ( Harrogate ) and appeared on the stage for the first time in 1939. During World War II he served as a lieutenant in the British cavalry and was badly wounded in Italy.

In 1956 he appeared in Ring For Catty at the Lyric Theater in London and in 1967 in the BBC film adaptation The Forsyte Saga .

In 1970 Terence Alexander could be seen as Lord Uxbridge in the historical film Waterloo by director Sergei Bondarchuk .

1979–1980 Alexander had minor roles in the series The Champions , Mit Schirm, Charme and Melone (orig .: The Avengers) and Terry and June . You could also see him from 1981 to 1982 in the CBS series Behind the Screen . In 1981, Alexander took on the role of millionaire Charlie Hungerford in the crime series Jim Bergerac. Three years later he starred in Doctor Who and The Mark of the Rani . In the West End he appeared in Move Over Mrs Markham (1971), Two and Two Make Sex (1973), There Goes The Bride (1974-75) and in Fringe Benefits (1976).

In 1999 he retired from acting and lived in London with his second wife Jane Downs , to whom he had been married since 1976 , until his death on May 28, 2009 . From his first marriage to Juno Stevas from 1949 to 1972, Alexander had two sons.
