The curse of the mummy (original title: The Mummy's Shroud ) is a horror film by the British production company Hammer from 1967 . It is the third film in a series of four "mummy films" that Hammer produced. The others are Revenge of the Pharaohs , Revenge of Pharaoh, and The Tomb of the Bloody Mummy .

action

During an excavation sponsored by businessman Stanley Preston, the archaeologist Sir Basil Walden discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Kah-to-Bey in 1920. However, the tomb is guarded by the guard Hasmid, who brings the mummy of Prem, a servant of Kah-to-Bey, back to life in order to kill the members of the expedition. All die at the hands of the mummy until only Paul Preston and Claire de Sangre are alive.

Claire begins research into the background of the deaths and is eventually locked in a museum with the mummy. Paul and Inspector Barrani come to her aid. When they are attacked by Prem, they discover that he appears to be invulnerable. Ultimately, Inspector Barrani shoots Hasmid, whereupon the mummy crumbles to dust.

production

The Curse of the Mummy was the last hammer film to be recorded at Bray Studios . Later films were shot at Elstree Studios and occasionally Pinewood Studios .

The mummy was portrayed by stuntman Eddie Powell, Christopher Lee's regular stunt double .

Peter Cushing is often mentioned as the voice of the narrator. Hammer is no longer on record, however, and it is unlikely that it was actually Cushing.

Reviews

  • Cinema : "Nice to look at, but not very gripping"
  • Protestant film observer : “Surprisingly carefully staged film that deals with its horror theme in a solid adventure story. Suitable for friends of the genre from 16 years of age. "
