Roger Delgado

Roger Caesar Marius Bernard de Delgado Torres Castillo Roberto (born March 1, 1918 in Whitechapel , London , England , † June 18, 1973 in Nevşehir , Turkey ) was a British actor .

Life

Delgado was the son of a Spanish father and a Belgian mother. He grew up in Whitechapel. Delgado attended Cardinal Vaughn School and The London School of Economics . After finishing school, he worked in a bank. A year and a half later, Delgado quit his job to join a repertoire theater group in Leicester. Some time later he fought as a soldier in World War II . When the war was over, he worked as an actor on radio, television and theater. He was particularly in demand because of his unique appearance and his unmistakable voice. Delgado has appeared in various films and television series. These included the films Im Netz der Abwehr , Panzerschiff Graf Spee , The Curse of the Mummy and Summer of the Cursed , and the television series Sir Francis Drake . After three unsuccessful attempts to get a role in the British television series Doctor Who , Delgado was cast as a master in 1971. The master is one of the doctor's most important opponents . Delgado played this in 37 episodes.

In 1973 Delgado was filming the Franco-German TV miniseries The Yellow Caravan on Croisière Jaune in Turkey. During the shoot he died in a car accident. The miniseries was completed and appeared in France in 1974 and in Germany in 1975. Actually Delgado was later in the Doctor - Who episode The Final Game , along with Jon Pertwee celebrate his departure from the series. The master was supposed to die trying to save the doctor. When news of Delgado's death reached the producers, a new script was being written.
