Sir Francis Drake (The Queen's Pirate) is a British adventure television series . It is based on the historical figure of Sir Francis Drake , a privateer and the first English circumnavigator.

In the 16th century, the admiral Sir Francis Drake fought with his ship, the Golden Hinde , as the pirate of Queen Elizabeth I on the oceans against mostly Spanish opponents. In addition to sea battles and sword fights, the series is about intrigues at the royal court, in which the Spanish villain Mendoza is usually involved.
Charisma
The series was first shown on former British broadcaster ATV between November 12, 1961 and April 29, 1962. The series consisted of 26 episodes, each 25 minutes long. In Germany, thirteen episodes of the series were broadcast between February 2, 1967 and June 16, 1968.
It was a co-production by ABC and ATV that was filmed at Elstree Studios and historic sites in England. The historical research was carried out by E. Hayter Preston . Sir Francis Drake is considered to be one of the pre-eminent characters in English seafaring. The historical costumes in the series were developed by Beatrice Dawson .
The soundtrack comes from Ivor Slaney , which was also played as the only background music. The series was produced by Anthony Bushell , directed by Clive Donner and Harry Booth , the dramaturgy by Ian Stuart Black . The fight scenes were staged by British stuntman and actor Peter Diamond .
The series has now been released on DVD.
