Terence Morgan

Terence Morgan (born December 8, 1921 in Lewisham , London as Terence Ivor Grant Morgan , † August 25, 2005 in Brighton , East Sussex ) was a British actor .

Life

After leaving school, Terence Morgan initially worked as an employee at the insurance company Lloyd’s and only as an actor in his spare time. That all changed when he received a grant from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . As a full-time actor Morgan u. a. in London's West End, where he was discovered by Laurence Olivier . After working together on stage, Olivier hired him for his award-winning Hamlet film in 1948 . Morgan made his film debut as Laertes . Two years later he also played in his first television production in a Shakespeare adaptation, as Prince Orsino in Was ihr wollt .

In the following years Morgan played mostly in British productions. He initially took on sympathetic characters, later increasingly dark and abysmal characters such as the vengeful son Ramses VIII in the horror film The Revenge of the Pharaoh of the Hammer film studios . His best-known film roles include 2nd Lieutenant Gerard in The King's Admiral after Cecil Scott Forester (with Gregory Peck in the title role), “little” Billy Bagot alongside Hildegard Knef in Svengali , the unscrupulous blackmailer in The Shakedown (alongside Donald Pleasence ).

In addition, Morgan took over between the 1950s and 1970s, various appearances in TV movies and television series, including the detective series The two as well as the title character in the 26-part television series Sir Francis Drake on the same British buccaneers and Admiral of the 16th century.

In the late 1960s , Morgan began to gradually withdraw from the film business. Shortly afterwards he opened a small hotel in Hove near Brighton, which he ran for 16 years.

Terence Morgan died of heart failure on August 25, 2005 in Brighton.
