Martin Clunes

Alexander Martin Clunes , OBE (born November 28, 1961 in Wimbledon , South London ) is a British actor .

His father died of lung cancer when Clunes was eight years old. He attended the Royal Russell School in Croydon and later the Arts Educational School in Hounslow .

He had his first appearance in 1983 in the science fiction series Doctor Who . He is best known for the comedy series Man Behaving Badly and as the country doctor Doc Martin , whom he has played in the television series of the same name since 2004 . Clunes had played this role for the first time four years earlier in the movie Grasgeflüster ; it was followed by two television films and finally the series. In 2012 he borrowed the dog in the animation - short film Room on the Broom his voice. In the series Arthur & George he embodies the writer and Sherlock Holmes inventor Arthur Conan Doyle .

Since 1997, Clunes has been married to Philippa Braithwaite, who also works as a producer for Doc Martin . The couple has a daughter (* 1999). He is a nephew of actor Jeremy Brett .
