Strike Back is a British television series from 2010. In this television series, bestselling author Chris Ryan processed his own experiences from his time as an elite soldier with the Special Air Service . The television series is based on the novel Ryan published under the name Chris Ryan's Strike Back . Left Bank Pictures is producing the television series on behalf of Sky1 .

The series revolves around a fictional division of the British Secret Service, Section 20.

background

The idea to adapt the novel by Chris Ryan came to executive producer Andy Harries when he saw the novel at an airport and took it on vacation. Although he had not read the book before returning to the UK, he suggested that Elaine Pyke film the novel, who approved it on behalf of British Sky Broadcasting .

The television series was shot in South Africa . Most of the photos were taken in the Gauteng region . Other locations in the series were in the North Cape Province and in the National Park at the Augrabies Falls . It was also filmed in the Kalahari . The television series is estimated to be worth several million pounds sterling . The television series celebrated its world premiere in the Vue cinema in London's West End on April 15, 2010. In the United Kingdom, the first season of the television series was broadcast from May 5, 2010 to May 19, 2010. Strike Back was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on June 7, 2010 .

The television series was shown for the first time by RTL II on German free TV . Two episodes each were broadcast as a 90-minute, coherent feature film. The first two episodes were shown on January 26, 2011, the third and fourth episodes were broadcast on January 28, 2011, and the last two episodes were aired a day later. In Germany, the first season of the television series was released under the title "Chris Ryan's Strike Back" on February 25, 2011 on DVD with an FSK -18 rating, the second season "Project Dawn" was released under the title "Strike Back - The Complete First Season " on October 5, 2012, the third season" Vengeance "appeared under the title " Strike Back - The Complete Second Season " on May 7, 2015, the fourth season" Shadow Warfare "appeared under the title " Strike Back - The Complete third season " on June 8, 2017 and the fifth season" Legacy "was released on August 3, 2017 under the title " Strike Back - The Complete Fourth Season " .

Richard Armitage completed 10 weeks of specialist training in the UK before filming began. This enabled him to do most of the stunts himself. The role of kidnapped Katie Dartmouth, played by Orla Brady , was inspired by Orla Guerin , an Irish journalist who works as a war correspondent in the Middle East for the BBC .

In August 2010, Sky1 announced that the production of another season, which should include 10 episodes, will be carried out in cooperation with the HBO subsidiary Cinemax under the title Strike Back - Project Dawn . This is supposed to be about US special forces that, in cooperation with British agents, take up the fight with an international terrorist group. Initially, the Herald Sun reported that Armitage would forego the participation in the production of the second season of the television series in favor of the shooting of the Hobbit film trilogy . However, it was later announced that he would appear again in the second season. Filming, which is to take the film crew from South Africa via the USA to Europe, including Hungary and the United Kingdom, began in South Africa in February 2011. The broadcast of the second season began on August 12, 2011 in the US and ended on October 21, 2012. In the United Kingdom, the second season was broadcast from August 21, 2011 to October 23, 2011. The broadcast of ten episodes existing third season was from August 17, 2012 to October 12, 2012 in the United States and from September 2, 2012 to November 4, 2012 in the United Kingdom. On October 3, 2012, the series was extended by a fourth season, which again consists of ten episodes.

In October 2013, Cinemax produced the fifth season. The sixth season with ten new episodes was released in October 2017, the seventh from January 2019, and the eighth, final season from February 2020.
