The North Cape Province ( Afrikaans Noord-Kaap , English Northern Cape , Setswana : Kapa Bokone , IsiXhosa Mntla-Koloni ) is located in the northwest of the Republic of South Africa . The province is the largest province in South Africa (about 30.5% of the area), but also the least populated, both in terms of population density (3.1 inhabitants / km²) and in absolute terms (1,145,861 of 51,770. 561 inhabitants, as of 2011).

The North Cape borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west and Botswana and Namibia to the north . The province was formed in 1994 when the Cape Province was divided.

    Distribution of languages ​​in the North Cape (2001 census):

  • According to the results of the 2011 census, 50.4% of the population belonged to the black population, 40.3% to the Coloreds ( Afrikaans : Kleurlinge , literally "colored"), 7.1% to the whites and 0.7% to the Indians and Asians .

    53.8% of the population gave Afrikaans as their mother tongue, Setswana 33.1%, isiXhosa 5.3%, English 3.4%, Sesotho 1.3%.
