Sol Plaatjie or Sol Plaatje ( English Sol Plaatje Local Municipality ) is a local municipality in the Frances Baard district of the South African province of Northern Cape . The local government is based in Kimberley . Mayor is Patrick Mabilo.

The local community is named after the politician Solomon Thekiso Plaatje .

In 2011 the community had 248,041 inhabitants. Of these, 61.2% were black, 27.4% colored and 7.5% white. 44.6% Afrikaans, 32.7% Setswana , 7.9% English, 5.5% isiXhosa , 2.5% Sesotho and 1.3% isiZulu were spoken .
