Kareeberg Local Municipality ( English Kareeberg Local Municipality Local Municipality ) is a local municipality in the district of Pixley Ka Seme of the South African province of Northern Cape in South Africa . The seat of the municipal administration is in Carnarvon . Mayor is Norman Stephen van Wyk.

The community name is made up of the name of a Khoi tribe Caree (also the Afrikaans name of a tree: Searsia lancea ) and the word "mountain" (which is the same in Afrikaans). He refers to the Kareeberge located there .

In 2011 the community had 11,673 inhabitants. Of these, 85.1% were colored , 9.1% white and 4.8% black. 93.7% Afrikaans, 1.3% English and 0.9% IsiXhosa were spoken .
