Hard Water is a city in the province of North Cape (Northern Cape) in South Africa . It is the seat of the municipality of Phokwane in the Frances Baard district .

In 2011 Hartswater had 10,465 residents. In 2011, 48 percent of residents said Afrikaans as their mother tongue, 38% Setswana . The city is located on the Phokwane River, a tributary of the Harts River that drains into the Vaal . The area of the village stands spur-like in the province of North West in. Hartswater is the center of the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme from Vaalharts Water , one of the world's largest artificially irrigated areas with around 370 square kilometers . To the north is the city of Taung , to the south Jan Kempdorp and Warrenton .
history
Construction on the site began in 1948, and in 1960 it was recognized as a municipality. The place was named after the nearby Harts River.
traffic
Hartswater is an agricultural center. There is also a winery and the Hartswater Hospital . The city lies on National Route 18 , which connects Vryburg and Taung in the north with Jan Kempdorp and Warrenton in the south. The railway line (Warrenton–) Veertien – Hartswater– Mahikeng runs parallel to the N18 and is served by freight traffic.
