Warrenton is a town in the province of North Cape (Northern Cape) in South Africa . It is the seat of the municipality of Magareng in the Frances Baard district .
geography
In 2011 Warrenton had 5905 residents. Imhutseng township with 16,683 inhabitants is located immediately south of the city . In 2011, 73 percent of the residents of Warrenton stated Afrikaans as their mother tongue. The city is located south of the Vaal and a few kilometers downstream from Vaalharts Storage Weir (German about "Vaalharts storage weir "), which supplies the Vaalharts Water irrigation system. The big city of Kimberley is 70 kilometers south.
history
In 1880 a syndicate acquired the western part of the Grasbult farm and grew vegetables there, from 1888 also for the numerous diamond hunters in the region. As a result, today's city was built there. Her name refers to the British Sir Charles Warren .

Warrenton is a major transport hub. The city is on National Route 12 . National Route 18 branches off in town . The Cape Town –Kimberley – Johannesburg railway runs through Warrenton. The route to Mahikeng , which branches off a few kilometers north of Warrenton in Veertien Strome , is only served by freight traffic. Warrenton Airport is located in the southeast of the city .
