Karoo Hoogland ( English Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality ) is a local municipality in the Namakwa district of the South African province of Northern Cape . The local government office is in Williston . Mayor is Veruschska C. Wentzel.

The community name is made up of the Khoi word for hard / dry and the Afrikaans word for highlands . The arid area lies at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,200 meters above sea level.

In 2011 the community had 12,588 inhabitants. 78.9% of them were colored , 14.6% white and 5.5% black. 90.2% Afrikaans, 1.2% English and 0.8% IsiXhosa were spoken .
