There is still space for cats and dogs is a British animated short TV film by Jan Lachauer and Max Lang from 2012. It is based on the children's book of the same name by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler .

action

A witch and her cat wake up in the morning. During the ensuing spells, the cauldron explodes after the witch adds toadstools to a brew. A dragon is woken up by the noise . While the witch and her cat fly away on a broomstick, the dragon goes in pursuit unnoticed. During the flight, the witch loses her hat and lands in a forest. It is a strange dog that puts on the hat and asks to be taken away by the witch. Although the cat is against it, the witch takes him on his broomstick. When the witch's hair bow is lost on the onward flight, the witch, dog and cat even find the needle in the haystack while searching, but not the bow. A green bird brings them over and after describing their fate - as a green bird among all the gray ones, he was always the outsider - they are allowed to go on a journey with witches, dogs and cats, although the dog and cat have spoken out against it. The lost wand is later brought by a frog, which, as a particularly clean animal, is also different from its fellow species. He is also allowed to take the trip.

The broom is now so fully loaded that it has difficulty flying and hardly gains any height. When the five nevertheless successfully fly over a mountain, the joy is great. The frog jumps up enthusiastically - when it lands, the broom breaks in two. While the four animals sitting on one half quarrel on the ground, the witch makes the acquaintance of the dragon who is chasing her. The four animals pull themselves together in the face of this development. When the frightened witch is dragged by the dragon to a pool where the monster wants to eat her, suddenly the four animals rise from the mud of the pool, who have stood on top of one another, act in their four languages, and make it clear to the dragon, that the witch is her witch. The dragon thinks he is dealing with a big monster, apologizes and flees. The animals cheer and the witch is also relieved and grateful. The broken broom now only offers space for two people and the animals let the cat go first. The witch, however, manages to re-enchant the broom in her cauldron and with the help of the animals and some toadstools: with three armchairs for the witch, cat and dog, a nest for the green bird and a bathtub with shower for the clean frog. And so all five move on together.
