Simon John Pegg (born Beckingham ; born February 14, 1970 in Gloucester , Gloucestershire ) is a British comedian , actor and screenwriter .

Life

Pegg's parents were jazz musician and keyboard salesman John Henry Beckingham and civil servant Gillian Rosemary, née Smith. When Pegg was seven years old, his parents divorced. He took the name Pegg when his mother remarried.

He attended Brockworth High School and later Stratford Upon Avon College to study English literature and theater studies. He finally studied acting at the University of Bristol and wrote his bachelor thesis on A Marxist overview of popular Seventies cinema and hegemonic discourses .

The series Spaced , the horror comedy Shaun of the Dead and the action personage Hot Fuzz - Two deviated professionals are among Pegg's best-known works. In these three productions he was both leading actor and screenwriter, each time working with director Edgar Wright and fellow actor Nick Frost . The latter is also his private best friend and former roommate.

Pegg received several awards for Spaced , including the BAFTA Award for Best Sitcom and the British Comedy Award for Best Comedy Newcomer. As an avid zombie film fan, he made a cameo in George A. Romero's Land of the Dead . He can also be seen alongside Tom Cruise in the action films Mission: Impossible III , Mission: Impossible - Phantom Protocol , Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible - Fallout and plays in the eleventh , twelfth and thirteenth films of Star Trek - series Scotty , who in the original series by James Doohan was represented. Pegg is a big fan of the Star Wars series, which is reflected in numerous allusions in his films. In the series Star Wars: The Clone Wars he was the voice actor for the bounty hunter Dengar.

Pegg also provided the template for the character Wee Hughie of the comic series The Boys by author Garth Ennis and wrote the foreword for the anthology of the first six issues (in the original English). In the series adaptation The Boys developed by Eric Kripke for Amazon Studios , Pegg plays Hughie's father, who is played by Jack Quaid , in a recurring guest role .

Pegg co-wrote the screenplay of the science fiction comedy The World's End with Edgar Wright , which culminated the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy in 2013 .

In 2017 he was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year, for his achievements as a screenwriter .

On July 23, 2005, Pegg married Maureen McCann in Glasgow . His colleague Frost was the best man. In July 2009, the Pegg couple had their first child, a daughter. Pegg is the godfather of Apple, the daughter of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow .
