Edgar Wright (born April 18, 1974 in Poole , England ) is a British director , writer and producer .

Life and accomplishments

His first directorial work was A Fistful of Fingers from 1995. He then worked for British television and directed individual episodes of various television series such as Is It Bill Bailey? and Asylum .

He gained greater fame through the series Spaced , on which he worked with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost . Together with the two actors, Wright realized the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy , consisting of Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz - Two deviated professionals (2007) and The World's End (2013). Wright directed the trailer for the fictional film Don't for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's film Grindhouse . In addition to his own films, he made small appearances as an actor in Land of the Dead and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy .

Wright wrote the screenplay for Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin - The Secret of the Unicorn , which had its world premiere on October 22, 2011 in Brussels , together with Steven Moffat and Joe Cornish .

His 2010 film Scott Pilgrim against the rest of the world with Michael Cera in the lead role is based on the comic of the same name by Bryan Lee O'Malley . On February 22, 2012, Disney announced that Wright would direct the remake of The Night Stalker . He also worked on a film adaptation of the comic book Ant-Man , but retired from directing the film in May 2014 due to creative differences. Instead, Peyton Reed directed it. Wright served only as executive producer of the film and was named as a screenwriter alongside Joe Cornish , Adam McKay and Paul Rudd .

In 2012 he was executive producer on Ben Wheatley's comedy thriller Sightseers .

Wright has been working on the film Baby Driver , which debuted on March 11, 2017 at the South by Southwest Film Festival , and for which he also wrote the screenplay, since 2007 .

In 2017 Wright was named to the competition jury of the 74th Venice International Film Festival .

Personal

Wright was dating actress Anna Kendrick between 2009 and 2013 , whom he met while filming his film Scott Pilgrim Against the Rest of the World .
