Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy (English: Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy , German for example: “ Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy ”; also: Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy , for example: “Three-sorts Cornetto Trilogy ", But mostly called" Cornetto Trilogy "for short in Germany) is a British film trilogy , written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright , with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in the leading roles.

Films of the trilogy

The first part of the trilogy is Shaun of the Dead from 2004, a horror comedy with romantic elements. The film pays homage to the 1978 film Dawn of the Dead .

The second part is Hot Fuzz - Two deviated professionals from 2007, an action comedy about a police officer who is transferred from the metropolis of London to a small village.

The third and final part, The World's End , was released in 2013 and is about five friends who celebrate a pub crawl and are confronted with aliens who have infiltrated humanity.

Cornetto ice cream

The trilogy has its unofficial nickname Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy by the leitmotif of a particular Cornetto - ice cream flavor , which appears thematically in every movie.

In Shaun of the Dead it's the “red” cornetto (strawberry), like blood in a horror film. On the morning of the zombie invasion, Shaun asks Ed if he should bring him something from the store, whereupon Ed asks for a cornetto ice cream.

In Hot Fuzz it's the “blue” cornetto (Classic), like the police uniform in a crime thriller. Here Nicholas brings his partner Danny the ice cream from the shop during a dreary patrol duty, the dialogue is about the same as in Shaun of the Dead .

In The World's End , the “green” mint choc chip cornetto appears as an accompanying motif that is reminiscent of aliens and science fiction . Shortly before the end of the film, Andy ponders the food he will not miss despite the collapse of civilization, and a shred of ice cream packaging flutters past him.

The trilogy is an allusion to the three-color trilogy by the Polish director and screenwriter Krzysztof Kieślowski from 1993 and 1994. He sets the tricolor and the associated basic principles of the French Revolution - freedom, equality, brotherhood - as a leitmotif for the Films form the basis of the trilogy.

Other recurring motifs

In addition to the cameo-like appearance of the ice, there are other motifs that appear in all three films. In Shaun of the Dead, for example, Shaun takes a shortcut to the pub through the gardens and tears down the fences. In Hot Fuzz , Nicholas again takes a shortcut to grab a shoplifter, but this time skillfully skips the fences. In The World's End , Gary stumbles awkwardly over similar fences on the run to a large meadow.

A recurring motive for action is the initially unnoticed infiltration of society by hostile conspirators. Just as Shaun goes shopping in Shaun of the Dead while his fellow human beings are already wandering around as zombies, the five friends in The World's End do not notice for a long time that their fellow human beings have been replaced by robots across the city. Nicholas is slow to find out about the vigilante group that controls much of the village in Hot Fuzz .

In all three films, the protagonist can rediscover his life goals while coping with the invasion. In two films, members of the invasion remain as primitive beings without being able to continue the invasion: Ed in Shaun of the Dead as zombie and Oliver and Peter in The World's End as robots. In Hot Fuzz these motives are not so clearly pronounced: Nicholas does not start out as an antihero, but through the rural police service he also finds new meaning in life. His partner Danny, still a member of the conspirators, ultimately turns on the good side.

Both Shaun of the Dead and The World's End take place in one or more pubs for much of the action. In Hot Fuzz, too, a few scenes occur in one of these. In all of the films, a Donkey Kong machine can be seen in a pub and the theme music can be heard briefly.

Moreover, in each of these films there are twins who are considered weird or creepy by the protagonists.
