Nancy is in her mid-30s and quite desperate: she hasn't had a partner in a long time and relies on her sister Elaine's advice. But that doesn't work either.

As she is on the way to her parents' wedding anniversary party, she meets a young woman on the train who is trying to help her with her problem. She leaves Nancy her relationship tips book to 6 Billion People and Me . When Nancy tries to give her the book back, she loses sight of it and stands under a station clock that acts as a meeting point with the book in hand. Then Jack, a 40-year-old newly divorced man, appears who thinks Nancy is his blind date partner named Jessica. Jack has the exact same book that serves as a badge. While Jessica is buying a new book to wait for her date, Jack and Nancy leave.

They walk across London and talk about all kinds of things. They both enjoy each other, and Nancy misses the right moment to clarify the truth to him - so she lets Jack believe she is Jessica for the time being. The result is a completely crazy night. That night, Nancy meets her old school friend Sean at a bowling alley , who promises Nancy not to tell Jack anything about her true identity if she kisses him in the bathroom. But nothing comes of it when Jack suddenly walks in. Sean explains Nancy's real name to Jack, whereupon Nancy confesses to Jack that she is not his expected blind date. The two then argue and go different ways: Nancy is on her way to her parents' 40th wedding anniversary (which she is already too late for anyway) and Jack meets with his real blind date partner. Unfortunately, Jack and Nancy switched their notebooks. Jack also realizes that he is in love with Nancy and that 24-year-old Jessica does not suit him. He goes looking for Nancy. Arriving in the residential area of ​​Nancy's parents, Sean gives Jack the wrong house number to visit Nancy himself. Instead, Jack arrives at a teenage party. When Nancy arrives at her parents' party, she bursts into tears. Her family tries to comfort her. When she has recovered, she gives her speech on the occasion of her parents' wedding anniversary.
