Notting Hill is a borough in London , England in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea . It's on the northwest corner of Hyde Park near the West End . This area received international attention through the hit film of the same name, which starred Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant .

Notting Hill was also the scene of riots by around 400 white youths against dark-skinned migrants in 1958. On the third day of the riot, the police intervened. In response, Claudia Jones held a Carnival party at the sold-out St. Pancras Town Hall the following January. Then the annual Notting Hill Carnival developed in August.

Portobello Road is in Notting Hill and has a well-known Saturday antique market . This road is considered the border between rich and poor.
