Dame Harriet Mary Walter DBE (born September 24, 1950 in London ) is a British actress .

biography

Harriet Walter was born in London in 1950 as the daughter of Xandra Lee, the older sister of British actor Christopher Lee . On her father's side, she is a direct descendant of John Walter , the founder of the daily newspaper The Times . She was educated at the Cranbourne Chase School. After taking acting classes at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art , she gained experience at various theaters such as Duke's Playhouse in Lancaster. She has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company repeatedly throughout her career . On New Year's Eve 1999 she was appointed Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II , and on New Year's Eve 2010 she was named Dame Commander of the British Empire . In the fall of 2007, she was an adjudicator in a free speech contest at Eton College . Her partner was the actor Peter Blythe until his death in 2004 . Harriet Walter has been married to the American actor Guy Schuessler since May 21, 2011.
