Jan Lachauer

Jan Lachauer (* 1983 in Munich ) is a German animator .

Life

After a year internship at Studio Soi in Ludwigsburg, Lachauer studied animation at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy from 2005 to 2011 . He has been working as a freelance animator since 2007. Lachauer's first short animated film Hugo was made in 2004. During his studies, three more short animated films followed, as well as his graduation film at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in 2011, the four-minute film Mr. Hoppe and the nuclear waste , which he directed together with Thorsten Löffler.

With Max Lang , whom he met at the beginning of his studies in 2005 at the film academy and with whom he had already worked in the context of his student films, Lachauer led the short animated television film Für Hund und Katz from 2011 onwards, after Julia 's children's book of the same name Donaldson and Axel Scheffler directing. It was Lachauer's first job after completing his studies. Lachauer and Max Lang won the award for best television production at the Festival d'Animation Annecy in 2013 . Both were nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2014 for Für Hund und Katz ist also Platz ist . In 2018 he was nominated again for an Oscar together with Jakob Schuh for Once Upon a Time ... after Roald Dahl in the category Best Animated Short Film. However, the Academy Awards went to Glen Keane and Kobe Bryant for their short film Dear Basketball , which shows Bryant's childhood dreams through to his 20-year career.

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
