Doc Martin is a British dramedy broadcast by ITV , invented by Dominic Minghella and produced since 2004. The filming location is mainly Port Isaac , which bears the fictional name Portwenn in the series , and the surrounding area in the county of Cornwall .

action

Dr. Martin Ellingham ends his career as an extremely successful surgeon in London to gain a foothold in the remote fishing village of Portwenn as a family doctor and to replace the village doctor who had previously died. The viewer does not find out the exact reasons for this decision at first, during the course of the first season it turns out that Ellingham has developed a phobia against blood and therefore cannot possibly continue his previous activity. Lovingly called "Doc Martin" by the villagers against his will, the sociophobic in Portwenn doesn't get too warm. He quickly realizes that his predecessor was probably not only a contact point for medical problems, but also for village gossip and a cup of tea. On the spur of the moment, Ellingham realized that he was needed in the village before setting up his practice.

In his childhood, Martin often spent the holidays with his aunt Joan, who now gives him spiritual support in the face of the unrest among the village population. The elementary school teacher Louisa Glasson, on whom he has his eye, reciprocates his feelings, but the two often seem to fail because of their different personalities. And last but not least, his lazy and unreliable office hour assistant Elaine makes life difficult for Ellingham. She is later replaced by her cousin Pauline Lamb.

background

Martin Clunes 2007 while filming

The template for the figure of Dr. Martin Ellingham is from the 2000 film Whispering Grass , in which Martin Clunes played the role of Dr. Martin Bamford played. Two British TV movie - prequels verschlugen the figure to Port Isaac, but the series was by a ruptured deal with Sky initially not continued. ITV ultimately took up the basic idea again, but made some changes. So Clunes' character is not only the only one that remains, but she herself is undergoing some restructuring. The changed name Ellingham is an anagram of the surname of screenwriter Dominic Minghella , who was responsible for these character restructuring of the series character and its history as well as the creation of the new village and its inhabitants.
