Celia Diana Savile Imrie (born July 15, 1952 in Guildford , Surrey , England ) is a British actress who gained fame mainly through roles in British television productions.
biography
The daughter of a Scotsman, she was born in Guildford in England in 1952. She studied acting at the Guildford School of Acting . Since the early 1970s she has worked in more than 120 film and television productions. In Great Britain, she was best known for her collaboration with comedian and television maker Victoria Wood , in whose series Victoria Wood as Seen on TV (1985-1987) and Dinnerladies (1998-2000) she had lead roles. On the London stage, Imrie starred in Woods Musical Acorn Antiques: The Musical! , for which she won the Laurence Olivier Award in 2006 for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.
Internationally, Imrie made a name for himself mainly through a few supporting roles in the cinema. In the three-part film series Bridget Jones , she played Una Alconbury , Bridget's mother's curious best friend. She also appeared as the mayor's wife in Calendar Girls (2003), as the widowed Mrs. Quickly in A Magical Nanny (2005) and as Marge Hardcastle, looking for a rich husband in Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011) and the sequel Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 (2015).
Imrie has a son, actor Angus Imrie (* 1994) , with actor Benjamin Whitrow, who died in 2017 . She and her son appeared in front of the camera in 2007 for the series Kingdom. In 2018, she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
